Methamphetamine or “Meth” is smoked in an ice, crystal, crank, or glass form. It is a white and bitter-tasting crystalline powder that dissolves in water or alcohol. It was created from the parent drug, amphetamine and used in nasal decongestants or bronchial inhalers. Meth can cause 6-8 hours of increased activity, decreased appetite, and sense of well-being.
Meth is a smoked in a glass pipe similar to crack cocaine. The smoke is odorless and can be re-smoked, resulting in effects that last up to 12 hours or more. Meth abuse can intensify wakefulness, lead to increased physical activity, and reduced appetite. Oral ingestion or snorting can also cause a prolonged high that lasts for half of the day.
The rush and high are a result of discharge of high levels of neurotransmitter dopamine into the brain which produces feelings of pleasure. Meth abuse has toxic effects which can raise body temperature to extreme and potentially deadly levels. Seizures are also known to be caused by meth abuse.
Additional effects of meth abuse include cardiovascular problems, increased blood pressure, stroke, rapid heart rate, irregular heartbeat, inflammation of the heart lining, violent behavior, paranoia, anxiety, confusion, and insomnia. Methamphetamine users can experience episodes of paranoia, anxiety, confusion, and insomnia.
The most recommended treatments for meth addiction are cognitive behavioral interventions, which are provided in Woodland Hills by the Nova Vitae Treatment Center. Support groups can also help individuals and guide them towards a long-lasting drug-free recovery. If you know someone who is affected by an addiction to meth, please contact us to schedule a consultation and provide them with the help they need.

Treatment Programs
“Inpatient” then means that the patient needs to be admitted to an addiction treatment center for therapy and detox, typically because he/she needs to be closely monitored.
Intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) are treatment programs used to address addictions, depression, eating disorders, or other dependencies that do not require detoxification or round-the-clock supervision.
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is the use of medications in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, which is effective in the treatment of opioid use disorders (OUD) and can help some people to sustain recovery.
Outpatient rehab is a form of alcohol or drug rehabilitation that allows patients to live at home (or in another safe and therapeutic environment, such as sober living)
Partial hospitalization provides a structured program of outpatient psychiatric services as an alternative to inpatient psychiatric care.
Sober living houses (SLHs) are alcohol and drug free living environments for individuals attempting to abstain from alcohol and drugs
A men’s rehab program is dedicated to helping men overcome drug and alcohol addiction.
Through gender-specific treatment, Redemption Addiction Treatment Center helps address key issues and obstacles that women face in their early recovery.
