What You Need to Know About Cocaine Detox
Cocaine is a stimulant drug abused by an estimated 1.5 million people in the United States, many of whom become dependent on it. Detoxing at Nova Vitae Treatment Center offers everything you or your loved one needs to overcome addiction, including physical, mental, and emotional support from a credentialed clinical team. Our holistic approach helps each patient to move through the recovery process as quickly and painlessly as possible.
While cocaine withdrawal isn’t as difficult or defined as detoxing from other drugs such as heroin, getting medical help and moving into counseling and behavioral therapy during this stage is an important step to enjoying a complete recovery. Our comprehensive detox facility, located in Woodland Hills, California, is the perfect environment to begin your journey to recovery.
Cocaine Withdrawal Timeline
Cocaine typically has a lower withdrawal profile than other drugs, with no significant visible symptoms such as tremors or cold and flu symptoms (elevated temperature, nausea, etc.). It’s also relatively safer to withdraw from, since patients are not at risk of seizures. However, it’s still important to receive medical monitoring and psychological support during the withdrawal process. Users who have combined cocaine with other drugs such as procaine, heroin, or amphetamines will experience much more serious withdrawal symptoms.
- 24-72 Hours: Withdrawal symptoms usually kick in after the first day. Most users will feel anxious, depressed, and irritable, with strong cravings for food. Many struggle with insomnia and may feel confused and disoriented. This stage normally lasts up to three days after the final dose.
- Day 3-7: Symptoms worsen after the first 3-4 days. Cravings usually begin to recede. However, most users experience increases in general malaise, anxiety, apathy, depression, paranoia, and irritability.
- Day 7+: Most cravings recede by this time but can return for brief periods. Other withdrawal symptoms decrease as well. Most patients experience agitation, restless sleep, and increased hunger for the first two weeks after the final dose. Most users are at their highest risk of relapse at this stage.
Cocaine Detox at Nova Vitae Treatment Center
Patients in any stage of cocaine withdrawal are at risk of cardiovascular issues as well as mental health problems relating to anxiety, depression, and irritability. Getting proper medical monitoring from a licensed nursing staff with a doctor available is essential to ensuring that you move through the detox period safely.
Most users also require significant psychological and emotional support. The licensed therapists and counselors at Nova Vitae Treatment Center offer personalized support for each patient, building a foundation for a better life moving forward. We recognize that each patient is different and has fallen into substance abuse for unique reasons.

Important Steps to Addiction Rehabilitation
Treatment Programs
“Inpatient” then means that the patient needs to be admitted to an addiction treatment center for therapy and detox, typically because he/she needs to be closely monitored.
Intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) are treatment programs used to address addictions, depression, eating disorders, or other dependencies that do not require detoxification or round-the-clock supervision.
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is the use of medications in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, which is effective in the treatment of opioid use disorders (OUD) and can help some people to sustain recovery.
Outpatient rehab is a form of alcohol or drug rehabilitation that allows patients to live at home (or in another safe and therapeutic environment, such as sober living)
Partial hospitalization provides a structured program of outpatient psychiatric services as an alternative to inpatient psychiatric care.
Sober living houses (SLHs) are alcohol and drug free living environments for individuals attempting to abstain from alcohol and drugs
