Families are always affected by a loved one’s addiction. In fact, the family of an addict can suffer almost as much as the addict themselves, as addiction often leads to destructive behaviors that hurt both the addict and the people around them. Families need healthy ways to cope with the pain and chaos that addiction causes. At Nova Vitae Treatment Center, we help families that have been hurt by drug and alcohol addiction find healing and new beginnings.
Family and Addiction
The pain of seeing a close family member succumb to substance abuse can be overwhelming. Participation in our Family Program helps rebuild trust, create healthy boundaries, guide the addict toward take responsibility for their actions, and heal frayed relationships.
Just because the addict is getting treatment doesn’t always mean the problem is solved for the family. Codependency and enabling behaviors often feed into addiction, creating fear, resentment, family dysfunction and other unhealthy behaviors. Our program promotes healthy behavior and encourages families to supporting the solution to addiction rather than the problem.
Recovery for the Family
Getting support throughout the recovery process is key to healing the wounds of addiction. We encourage family members to get involved in Al-Anon support groups and other fellowships which build a supportive network of people who are going through the same experience. You don’t have to go through this alone.
It is important to process the many feelings that may surface once the addict has entered treatment. Participating in our family program encourages loved ones to take advantage of therapy groups, counseling sessions with the addict, and educational groups on addiction. This will increase family members’ awareness and understanding of unhealthy behaviors, and help them to see any dysfunctional roles that addiction has created in their home lives.
Nova Vitae Treatment Center’s Family Program is available for spouses, immediate family members, and close friends who have been affected by a loved one’s addiction. The program is designed to help you and your loved one learn to live together in a loving, supportive way free of drug or alcohol abuse.
